Does it even exist? We all know the images of Indian pipe-smoking medicine men or Mongolian shamans in yurts. But is there such a thing as European shamanism? I think so - at least! And it should be practiced. Shamanism is not something specific to Nepal or Peru.
Rejection by a large proportion of anthropologists Our European shamanic tradition dates back to the Neolithic period and beyond. Even before the Celts, the Germanic tribes or the Slavs colonized our continent. The hunter-gatherer here with us, but also the already settled "megalithic farmer", was deeply embedded in the memory of Mother Earth. I think it is simply wrong to claim that there is no European shamanism. This statement can only refer to the word shaman, which was originally only used in Siberia. Yes, the animistic, magical world view of our ancestors in the Megalithic period was not called shamanism. This is more of a debate about the definition of the term than about the existence of a culture and tradition that would be called shamanism today.
In this video I would like to introduce you to European shamanism but also share my insights into the shamanism of other cultures.
